At the heart of the capital’s cobbled streets, Conrad Dublin’s newly transformed interiors are a modern nod to Ireland’s natural world. In a country known as the Emerald Isle for its great swathes of lush green land, it seems fitting that the clever renovation of Conrad Dublin should take inspiration from the natural world within and surrounding the thriving capital.
Newly finished in time for 2017, Chris Webb, Senior Director of Interior Design EMEA, Hilton, explained his thinking behind the renovation: “Conrad Dublin celebrates the subtleties and hidden beauty of Dublin’s rich vernacular. From references to the charming Iveagh Gardens with its diverse and chequered history, to the characters conjured by Jonathan Swift, the hotel interior is softly steeped in this rich and elegant tapestry…”
In the lobby, the subtle, genteel color palette is inspired by the beauty of the Iveagh Gardens’ Rosarium, with its elegant Victorian folly and surrounding flora. Leaf and rose-shaped lighting pendants take on the form of nature and the artwork behind the reception desk, designed by a local artist, depicts the River Liffey. In the Coburg Restaurant, the outdoorsy atmosphere continues with equestrian details inspired by Iveagh Gardens’ Royal Horse Bazaar. Stone and timber decks the floors and leather-strap details can be found amongst the oak and timber.
Beyond, to the suites, inspiration from the Iveagh Gardens continues: “Textures and materials are taken from nature with a pared-back, muted palette that gives the suites an unexpected contemporary identity of minimalistic luxury.”
Throughout, materials are locally sourced, textures are tactile and colors are earthy, with cool riven limestone, emerald-green marble and soft rose-colored leather. Tom Strother, Founder and Owner of Fabled Studio, the interior designers responsible for the redesign said, “as a studio we always strive to build a narrative through the design, and the city of Dublin provided such a rich tapestry to draw upon.
