THE CURATOR

Dana Farouki head of the Abraaj Group Art Prize and board member of Art Dubai
What makes Dubai such an exciting place to experience contemporary art? “The city’s success is due to a young, educated audience that lives in the city with an appetite for a great cultural calendar. Openings, public programs and workshops — it’s always bustling in town!”

What do you think makes Art Dubai so popular on the international agenda? “A mixture of innovative events programming and some of the world’s best and groundbreaking galleries. The Abraaj Group Art Prize is particularly interesting — an initiative that funds four emerging artists in realizing their most ambitious ideas.”

How do you relax in the city?  “The beach. We spend a lot of time in Jumeira, which is also the location for Art Dubai, and it’s great for reflecting on all the art. For food, I love Em Sherif for an indulgent Lebanese lunch. The Little Black Door—accessible through Conrad Dubai—and the Jean-Georges Dining Room are both great for a night out and people watching.”
